A WELLWISHER kissed the hands of King Charles III as he greeted some of his loyal subjects outside Buckingham Palace yesterday.
A cry of “God Save the King” went up as the grieving monarch stepped from his car with the Queen Consort.
And he looked visibly moved as he glanced towards the Mall and heard the roar of the crowd and the sustained applause.
His Majesty said “you are so kind” after Victoria Binkey, 51, from Rutland, grabbed his hands and kissed them.
She explained afterwards that she him in front of me. I couldn’t believe it and I said ‘may I kiss you?’ He said ‘well, yes’ so I grabbed him.
“I am very happy. Thank you God for letting me see him and kiss him.”
She added: “I love the Royal Family. Always I am watching them, buying souvenirs from [when] they are small babies to growing up. He looked sad.”
Another kissed the Queen Consort as The King spoke openly to the crowds about his anguish.
An American woman next to me broke down in tears and gave me a hug. Suzanne Shelby realised that she had just witnessed history.
She was barely a yard from His Majesty when she offered her condo had not planned to do it – but suddenly felt the need.
She said: “I was at the front waiting to give flowers and realised the King and Queen would be coming.
